Can you believe it? The season 3 finale of Fear The Walking Dead is NEXT WEEK. I have to say this has been, by far, the best season of FTWD. We’ve witnessed some of the best writing, intense plot development, and character progression in a way this show has not done before.

If you haven’t seen the episode, stop reading now as I’m headed into spoiler territory.

This episode was a toughie to watch. We spent so much of the season looking for Ofelia (Mercedes Mason), only to lose her in this episode. 🙁 And that wasn’t even the worst part. Daniel (Ruben Blades) showed up moments after Ofelia’s last breath, unable to reunite with his daughter one last time. How poetic that he is the one that has to put her down before the walker in her took over. Ughhhh, the feels. That had me choked up, for sure. A huge shout-out to Mercedes Mason for doing an amazing job playing Ofelia, we’ll miss you girl!

So, let’s back up. How did Ofelia get bit? Remember last week when the walker fell on her in the chute? On his way down, he bit Ofelia leading to her inevitable demise. The bite is discovered at the beginning of this episode when Ofelia falls out of the truck. 🙁

Daniel wasn’t the only one to lose a child in this episode. Though not in the physical sense, Madison (Kim Dickens) has now lost Alicia (Alycia-Debnam Carey) and Nick (Frank Dillane). Alicia decided to take off on her own, and at the end of the episode, Nick decides him and Troy are going to stick around at the market (Gee, I wonder why). You can see this break down Madison in a way she’s not used to. After losing Travis, she needed this family to stick together, now more than ever. But it doesn’t seem like things are headed that way.

With Ofelia bit and on the verge of dying, Madison realized that she is still her only bargaining chip. They no longer need water, but Ofelia is their key to getting into the dam.

We also see Nick go on a “trip” of his own with Troy (Daniel Sharman) courtesy of Ofelia’s pills. Ever since the apocalypse started, Nick hasn’t exactly had access to the drugs of his past. This bender leads them deep into the market where they come across…brainstems for eating? Yuck. At this point, even Troy thought Nick was acting cray. And if that’s the case, then welp there is definitely something wrong. I can’t say I blame Nick for completely letting go at this point. Travis is gone, Alicia left, and the ranch has burnt down. With every passing day, hope is dwindling and with it, his mind. Homeboy definitely snapped in this episode, and I can understand why.

Alicia found a potential ally while being out on her own. I have to say that I admire that she continues to have a sense of moral ground. When hiding in the pit of balls (I totally jumped when the walker came out, btw!), she sees a woman enter the fast-food joint. Even though she could have decided to kill her out of fear, she befriends her instead, finding a potential friend in these lonely times.

So let’s see, Ofelia has died, Madison has been abandoned by her children, and we don’t know if Daniel is letting them into the dam. What does the future hold in store for the group? Madison has always sought out survival for the sake of her children, with them gone, how will she exist? So many questions, so many thoughts. Only next week’s 2 hour season finale will tell!
