Today marks the beginning of the three day, Disney Expo known as D23.
Fun fact: Many don’t know that 23 stands for the year Walt Disney started the company. Cool, huh? #D23
Over the next three days, attendees will be treated to a variety of panels (Marvel, Lucasfilm, Pixar), screenings, exclusive sneak peeks, and much much more.
It will indeed be an exciting time for all those in attendance. They could very well catch a glimpse of Disney’s upcoming Star Wars Land, a behind the scenes look at the upcoming Pixar, Marvel, and Disney live action films. And one can hope and pray, we finally get some Last Jedi (maybe even Hans Solo?!) deets. All in all, it will be one epic weekend and I will be there live to share all the information with you.
Be sure to follow me on Twitter (@watchwithreebs) for live updates and the low down on what will be going on at D23.
I am sharing the D23 schedule below as a sneak peek for what we can expect from this epic, nerdy weekend.
Friday, July 14th
Disney Legends Awards Ceremony
This ceremony has been awarding selected individuals yearly since 1987. It is rewarded to those that have left their mark on Disney history over the years. Some of this year’s notable recipients are: Carrie Fisher (R.I.P.), Mark Hamill, Stan Lee, Garry Marshall, and Oprah Winfrey.
Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios Panel
This panel is simply one of the best as John Lasseter moderates and provides us with so many behind the scenes look at upcoming films that we can barely handle it. We are expected to hear about Wreck-It-Ralph 2 and the next Pixar film, Coco.
It wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibilities for the panel to have a few surprises up its sleeve. One can hope they will also be sharing information on Frozen 2, Toy Story 4, Incredibles 2, and anything else their heart desires.
Saturday, July 15th
Walt Disney Live Action Films (Marvel, Disney, & Lucasfilm)
One can only imagine what surprises will be in store at the live action films panel on Saturday. With so many live action films coming out in the not so near future, I am personally super excited about a couple of them. I’m hoping we learn more about The Lion King (including unannounced cast) and see behind the scenes footage of next year’s release of Mary Poppins, starring Emily Blunt and Lin Manuel Miranda.
Another movie I look forward to learning about is Disney’s take on “A Wrinkle In Time”, starring Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, and Chris Pine. Panel details were recently released announcing the movie will be a part of Saturday’s panel.
This panel also includes Marvel and Lucasfilm and although they haven’t officially announced who will be a part of their panels, one can dream of what we might get to see.
With Marvel currently working on Infinity War, I know the nerd inside us all is hoping for some footage or a teaser to appease us till its release. I am fairly certain we will hear and see something from the upcoming Thor Ragnarok and Black Panther films and perhaps see some of the cast (so much yes to Hemsworth and Bosewick).
As far as Lucasfilm goes, we can expect to NOT see a trailer of any sort for the Last Jedi, as it was announced recently they will not be showing one. But, fans should not lose hope as we may still be treated to epic behind-the-scenes footage!
Walt Disney Parks and Resorts
This panel is always so ridiculously amazing as Disney CEO, Bob Iger, give us all the updates on Disney Parks around the world. In 2015, he announced Star Wars Land, which is slated to complete in 2019 across the two U.S. parks. It is almost a guarantee we will learn even more information at this year’s panel on this epic, interactive land.
I am also looking forward to hearing what’s new around the international Disney parks as many of them were getting the likes of Toy Story Land, a Frozen ride, and many, many more.
Tune in for live updates with @watchwithreebs on Twitter, as these all nerdy shenanigans take place!
